Fort Napoleon is a unique military stronghold in the dunes. In 1810 Napoleon built this fortress against the English threat. The monument was finished at the fall of the French empire. During World War I and World War II the German soldiers had their residence there. For a while it was a local museum, later a playground for children… Then a period of decay began. The Flemish Heritage Foundation took care of the restoration and organises contemporary events here. You can go there for a historical visit or cultural activities. The terrace offers a view of the harbour and the sea.
